THE SPONTANEOUS DANCE FALLS är en pågående konstnärlig undersökning som granskar politiken som kringgärdar kollektiv samling och rörelse genom myten om Frau Troffea och Danspesten i Strasbourg (1518) i relation till det nyligen slopade så kallade ’danstillståndet’ (1956–2023). Genom att anspela på en dansande kvinna som kanske aldrig har existerat utforskar Stacey de Voe olika förekomster av kollektivitet, myt, mutation, rytm, hysteri, begränsning och utmattning. Med hjälp av historiska fragment hämtade från medeltiden till idag närmar sig Stacey de Voe relationen mellan dans och dansgolvet som historiska uttryck för socialistisk världsbyggande och potentiella arenor för framtida utopier.

THE SPONTANEOUS DANCE FALLS is an ongoing artistic research project, which scrutinizes the politics surrounding gestures of collective gathering through the myth of Frau Troffea, the dancing plague of 1518, and the recently abandoned ’danstillståndet’ or ’dancing permit’ (1956–2023). Through the allusion of a dancing woman who may never have existed, the body of work explores various moments of collectivity, myth, mutation, rhythm, hysteria, restriction and exhaustion. Through historical fragments spanning from the medieval period to today, de Voe attempts to understand the relation of dance (movement) and the dance floor as historical expressions of socialist world building and potential arenas of future utopias.
