SE: ’The earth is trembling’, konstaterade författaren Édouard Glissant. Härifrån tar utställningen avstamp och presenterar verk av Alberta Whittle, Felix Gmelin och Frida Orupabo. I en orolig värld frågar den hur motstånd formas. Med ett glissantiskt förhållningssätt accepterar den det ständiga mullret som ett faktum, och prövar vad det innebär att leva, tänka och agera i det.

Frida Orupabos installation omarbetar föreställningar om svart subjektivitet genom arkivbilder, och skapar en loop av obehag och lättnad. Alberta Whittle nystar upp det koloniala arvet efter North British Rubber Company och vänder sig mot havet som en plats för minne. I centrum för Felix Gmelins verk står frågan: kan en politisk gest ärvas? Genom reenactment undersöker han spåren efter 1960-talets radikalism.

EN: ‘The earth is trembling’, observed writer Édouard Glissant. The exhibition takes off from here, presenting works by Alberta Whittle, Felix Gmelin and Frida Orupabo. In this world of unrest, it asks how resistance takes form. Embracing a Glissantian approach it accepts the ongoing rumbling as a matter of fact, and presses on what it means to live, think, and act within it.

Frida Orupabo’s installation reworks constructions of Black subjectivity through archival imagery, creating a loop of discomfort and release. Alberta Whittle unravels the colonial legacy of the North British Rubber Company, turning towards the ocean as a site of memory. At the heart of Felix Gmelin’s work is the question: can a political gesture be inherited? He uses reenactment to examine the traces of 1960s radicalism.
