Vilka frågor engagerar unga arkitekter just nu?

Can architects use the written word to change the world? MANI-FEST is an exhibition and publication where we invite twenty newly started Swedish architectural offices to formulate themselves in short and impactful sentences. We will reflect on the power of words, historical manifestos and what role they played. Does the manifesto have any significance for the architects of today and the future? What can it contribute to a superficial and polarized architecture debate? What issues engage young architects right now? The invited offices have been given the following meta-manifesto to relate to:
1. The manifesto is a document that establishes goals and limitations.
2. The author of the manifesto commits to follow it.
3. The manifesto must not just contain platitudes that everyone can sign.
4. The Manifesto is the ultimate contemporary critique.
5. The imperative is to the manifesto what the metaphor is to the lyric.
6. The manifesto is free to reject and invalidate the ideas of others in favor of their own.
7. The manifesto only describes WHAT is to be achieved. HOW this is to be achieved is left open.
8. The manifesto can be recorded at any time – it might as well start from youthful idealism as from a pragmatic approach that took years to establish.
9. The manifesto is a public document.
10. The manifesto always outlives its author.
The manifesto will be presented in a publication and a spatial representation in SPARK’s gallery on Båstadsgatan in Malmö with a vernissage on September 1, 2023. In connection with the exhibition, we will invite you to several talks where the authors will have the opportunity to present their manifesto and discuss the manifesto as a means of expression. The exhibition and talks will be part of the Malmö In The Making event and will last until October 1.
