Each Moment Presents What Happens

Utställningen Each Moment Presents What Happens på Digitaliseum för samman Johanna Billings (f. 1973) långvariga intresse för improvisation, samarbete och utbildning med tre aktuella filmprojekt. Each Moment Presents What Happens (2022), som visas i Sverige för första gången, In Purple (2019) samt material från det pågående arbetet Listen, the Snow is Falling (2024–25). Genom att sammanfoga metoder för produktion av liveevenemang och workshops med ett filmiskt språk, utforskar Billing relationerna mellan dåtid och nutid, dokumentation och event samt individuell och kollektiv performance. Filmerna innehåller ofta modifierade partitur och musik komponerad av konstnären eller i nära dialog med de medverkande, där ljud används som ett centralt verktyg för utbyte, minne och rekonstruktion.

The exhibition Each Moment Presents What Happens brings together Johanna Billing’s (b.1973) long-held interest in improvisation, collaboration and education with three recent film projects. Each Moment Presents What Happens (2022) which will be shown in Sweden for the first time, In Purple (2019) and material from the ongoing work Listen, the Snow is Falling (2024-25). Merging the production modes of collective live events and workshops with a cinematic language, the films explore the affinities between past and present, documentation and event as well as individual and collective performance. Billing’s films often feature modified scores and music composed by the artist or in close dialogue with participants, using sound as an essential device for exchange, memory and reconstruction.
